The lymphatic system is an open-loop fluid network running parallel to your cardiovascular system. While blood flows in a closed circuit, lymph flows one direction only — from the tissue, through progressively larger vessels, toward the thoracic duct, and back into the bloodstream. Along this route, lymph passes through clusters of nodes where immune surveillance happens.
It houses 70% of your body's immune cells. When it's backed up, immune function is compromised alongside performance. And unlike your cardiovascular system, it has no heart — no dedicated muscular pump contracting 100,000 times per day. It relies entirely on three external forces: skeletal muscle contraction, respiratory movement, and external mechanical compression.
Without those inputs, lymph sits stagnant between one-way valve segments with zero driving force.
